This is a window shutter fastener made of cast iron. Seldom in red but usually the same face with a little helmet, they used to be standard on window shutters. It’s also a wonderful example of German compound words: Fensterladenfeststeller.

Most shutters have them. And most have those little manikins although they exist in modern, abstract form.

Oh … it took me a bit. When google search broungt up an electronic music artist calle Wot Sun I knew I was being led up the garden path. That made it click: I’ve only ever spent 10 days in the UK, in Birmingham and Sunderland and Edinburgh. In October. It was almost permanently blue skies (except for the last day when we left).
