Signifying danger and indeed the salamanders are poisonous (not so much to humans but to pets and smaller forest animals). Still beautiful, though.

I didn’t, although the colours made me look it up. I didn’t because I’ve grown up with “Lurchi”. https://picturesimperfect2.wordpress.com/2026/04/22/lurchi/ A cartoon character (a hero, the leader amongst 6 friends, a toad, a frog, a mouse, a hedgehog, a dwarf – and I still know all their names). The story came in little booklets (later bound into books), PR for a chain of shoe stores (called Salamander).

I’ve added a link to another post of mine. Salamanders are special to Germans who were children in the 60s and 70s.

While checking I learned that they record salamanders and analyse their patterns with computers. It’s non invasive, hence no danger to them, and it is somehow scientifically valuable.
