Seide is “silk” in German. Buch is “book” in German. Yet, Seidenbuch isn’t “book of silk”. It is the name of a little village in the Odenwald. Where – according to family lore – an ancestor of mine was born and grew and left to go to a town about 30 kilometers away to find his luck, or rather employment. This happened a bit more than 100 years ago and the man was my grandfather who I’ve never met and hence, this is all hearsay.

……………………………………….
Well, it’s a good family story anyway.

It’s a good starting point if you ever want to find out about him

I am not into ancestry research myself. It never really interested me beyond my grandparents (and this grandfather disappeared out of my father’s life before he started school).

Fair enough but does sound like a good mystery to solve

I never met either of my grandfathers and only one of my grandmothers, who passed when I was very young. All I know about them is…well, almost nothing.
