White Waves

It’s asparagus time in Germany. Most fields have lost their plastic covers but when the covers are on and the wind comes from the right direction it looks as if there are waves going over a white sea. The plastic waves are undulating.

  1. Hooray! It’s peak asparagus time here too, The jury’s out on whether thin or thick spears are best- we prefer thin in this house. But like all English people, we can agree that white spears are neither good for man nor beast. I’ve never seen them on sale here.

  2. It is time to eat asparagus in Switerland, but we do not grow enough to feed the population and rely on the Alsace region in France and also Germany, as well as some foreign imports. I have not yet bought any asparagus but am thinking about it. I like both kinds, the green asparagus and the fleshy white sort.

    1. We grow almost exclusively white asparagus here, You need a special soil which is not found just anywhere. There are booths on the side of the road everywhere here, so temptation is great. Unfortunately, so is the price.
