There once were three Irish girls who wanted to trek
from Stansted to Kerry without leaving their wallet a wreck.
The flight was real cheap,
yet the charges were many and the charges were steep.
Feckity – feckity – feckity – feck.

A very jolly poem, if scarcely a limerick!

aabba – that’s the only limitation I accept.

‘Limericks have a strict rhythm that dictates their syllable count, typically following an 8-8-5-5-8 or 9-9-6-6-9 structure’. And to get past the English, who tend to have the rhythm of limericks in their DNA, you might have to accept that! We need to be able to recite the dum-de-dum rhythm in our heads.

Oh, I know very well. But some of the limericks offered in this challenge … they don’t even rhyme! So I feel no obligation to be too strict with metre. I had a more limericky version but I was so proud to understand the place references in the song that I had to get them in 😂

Go for it Elke. I think one has to be born listening to limericks to insist on the rules, and as we all know … rules are made to be broken.

Not quite a limerick, but fun and feisty all the same

See my comments to Margaret. I feel assured enough in the proper limerick rules to allow myself to break them.
