My boys had a picture book in Afrikaans called “Muis verf”. The original is “Mouse Paint” by Ellen Stoll Walsh. It’s about three white mice who come across three pots of paints in primary colours. First they are one colour each, then they start mixing the colours and end up an orange mouse, a purple mouse, and a green mouse. As they are now visible when sitting on a white sheet of paper the cat can see them. So they take a bath, get white again and are safe from the cat.
As my copy is now literally falling apart because my kids have used it, their kids have used it, and I’ve used in class often to teach the German words for colours (as well as teaching basic colour knowledge to some of my not stupid but under-edcuated students) I’ve turned it into a piece of paper theatre, aka kamishibai.

Just lovely 🐭
