The sign on the bench tells hikers to enjoy the moment – and adds a date. I have no idea what the significance of that date is but I assume the people who sponosered the plaque know very well. But I’ve enjoyed a few moments over the years on this particular bench.
Not least thinking of Goethe’s Faust and his unsatiable thirst for life (the opposite of me on the bench):
„Werd’ ich zum Augenblicke sagen:
Verweile doch! du bist so schön!
Dann magst du mich in Fesseln schlagen,
Dann will ich gern zu Grunde gehn!“When thus I hail the Moment flying:
“Ah, still delay—thou art so fair!”
Then bind me in thy bonds undying,
My final ruin then declare!
