It is not easy to admit. But if you live with a half-way normal outdoor cat you live with a serial killer. Henry is a half-way normal cat. He does not discriminate when it comes to his victims. His favourite prey are mice. I guess he is too slow for birds but there also seems to be a lack of interest. When I show him videos for cats on youtube he is only mildly interested in birds but mice and gerbils really pique his interest. In the beginning of his career he brought one shrew, proceeded to eat it, vomited and never brought another one. Occasionally he brings “toys” like lizards, dragon flies, large moths and the like. He also has caught the occasional shrivelled chestnut which on inspection turned out to be very feisty bats who left after a while, being very disgruntled. But there is no denying it: he has killed and will kill again.

I didn’t want to show any gory dead or half dead mice or the like. This was the least gruesome crime scene shot I could find.

Benny, the Henry lookalike, was also a killer of repute. I’m not into details but some of his catches have been far bigger than him. One time he had a goanna up a tree for almost half a day until he lost interest

Wow! I’m glad he lost interest, though.

I love it how cats will bring you their kills and drop them off in front of you, as if they are bringing you a present. They are so proud of their kills.
