Advertising a vile habit

Cigarette advertising from a few years ago in Germany: “Sooo grand, sooo grandios, sooo Gauloises!”

Now read this with an English mind: “Sooo gross, sooo grandiose, sooo Gauloises!”

I like the description “gross” in connection with smoking and cigarettes. Remind me to tell my sons (again).

    1. Not anymore. I had to check – it was banned from TV from onwards. Having said that – I still can hum the tune of “Peter Stuyvesand” (a brand that doesn’t exist anymore). I still know what the HB cartoon looked like (a little man who was prone to rages and calmed down when he smoked) and I can still hear the voice over in my head. They had a big budget and used it well (well for them). Big street ads were banned in 2020 or thereabouts. — Besides my sons I hardly know any smokers either except, well except my nephew, the doctor (sic!). But he vapes now.
